Michael Walz is a Natural Catastrophe (Nat Cat) Specialist focusing on atmospheric hazards in the Natural Catastrophe Modelling team (Cat Perils) for the EMEA region. He has been working on developing and maintaining Swiss Re's proprietary atmospheric Nat Cat models such as European winter storm, European convective storm or Tropical cyclone North Atlantic. Michael is also the climate change ambassador for the EMEA region in which he is responsible for EMEA-specific requests concerning climate change.
Before joining Swiss Re in 2018, Michael finished his Ph.D. at the University of Birmingham in the UK in which he focused on the spatial and temporal variability of European winter storms. Before his Ph.D. Michael obtained both a BSc and MSc in Meteorology from Freie Universität Berlin.
