About the role

Apprentice will combine design thinking techniques, software development, networking skills, business domain know-how and apply agile principles to build high-quality applications. Your primary task would be to provide technical expertise for specific product(s) focusing on Application Engineering and rollout of applications. In this role, you will also be responsible for collaborating with global teams and outsourcing partners during all phases.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • High quality Engineering and rollout of applications/products
  • Source business requirements, translate them into software artefacts.
  • Develop and maintain documentation and training material and proactively engage business analysts in change management activities.
  • Take part in knowledge transfer sessions and document key learnings 
  • Coordinate with different teams (development, infrastructure, etc.) to resolve issues 
  • Stay on top of the latest developments in technology space.

About the Team

Group Digital and Technology Office (GDTO) provide sophisticated technological solutions that enable Swiss Re business to grow and be the leader in the Reinsurance business. We develop, design and maintain technology, applications, architectures, databases, solutions and provide maintenance support to ensure all our stakeholders (internal and external) can achieve their business goals utilizing state-of-the-art technology.

Our team is the global Technology team, responsible for the technical Architecture and Engineering of IT solutions for Reinsurance business unit. The team members are passionate about technology with a deep understanding of reinsurance business. We closely collaborate with other teams and colleagues around the globe to share knowledge and engineering solutions.

Growing experience will, over time, give you a broad view on Architecture & Engineering of a global reinsurer and enable you to have a comprehensive understanding of people and systems involved and how these systems shape business outcomes. This will allow you to build an excellent foundation for your next career step.

About You

As a successful candidate for this role, you possess or in the process of obtaining: Do you have deep passion for Technology? Are you eager to redefine the reinsurance industry with us and make an impact?

  • Must have completed a Bachelor's, degree in engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology/Electronics & Communication/Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering in 2024 or 2025.
  • Strong foundation in computer science, data structures & algorithms
  • Good Knowledge in Java with good exposure to OOPs Concepts.
  • Understanding Spring Boot fundamentals (REST APIs, controllers, basic configuration).
  • Familiarity with Angular (components, services, HTML/CSS, TypeScript basics).
  • Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL/ MongoDB) is a plus.
  • Understanding Git, REST services, and basic CI/CD concepts (nice to have).
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities and willingness to learn.
  • You are not shy asking WHY and HOW. You like sourcing the needs of people and translating them into products. You start at the need - not what is technically possible. You care about user experience.
  • Show good communication and presentation skills and the ability to explain complex problems with clarity and effectiveness.
  • Have excellent oral and written command of English (additional languages a plus)
  • Bring a high level of curiosity for the financial industry and eagerness to scout for new insights and transform them into commercial value.
  • Show the ability and passion to work in a global and multicultural environment, and to be mobile in terms of workplace or location.
  • You like to work independently and proactively.
  • Good team player, willing to contribute actively to the overall team spirit.
