About the Role

As Associate Legal Counsel, you'll be an essential advisor providing comprehensive legal support to Swiss Re's Global Business Solutions (GBS) Centre in Bangalore and Hyderabad, with occasional support to our Mumbai operations. You'll handle diverse legal matters requiring both technical expertise and business acumen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic legal guidance relating to Swiss Re's business activities across India
  • Handle governance matters and support the Bangalore Legal Head & Company Secretary in Corporate Governance initiatives
  • Manage corporate legal affairs including corporate filings and interactions with statutory authorities
  • Address employment matters by providing expert legal advice and support
  • Draft and review various legal documents including contracts, petitions, and legal notices
  • Support internal investigations and manage litigation while coordinating with stakeholders including law firms, auditors, and consultants
  • Monitor regulatory developments and analyze their impact on Swiss Re's business operations in India
  • Contribute to regional initiatives as part of the APAC Legal & Compliance team

About the Team

The Swiss Re India Legal team is a vital part of our APAC division, providing crucial legal support to ensure our business operations comply with regulations while enabling strategic growth. The team works collaboratively across jurisdictions, handling diverse legal matters from corporate governance to employment issues, and serves as trusted advisors to various business units.

About You

You are a detail-oriented legal professional with excellent analytical skills and a collaborative mindset. You thrive in a dynamic environment where you can apply your expertise across multiple legal domains. Your ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and work effectively across cultures makes you an ideal candidate for our global organization.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • India qualified lawyer with 8-12 years post-qualification experience (PQE), preferably with Bar Council registration
  • Demonstrated experience in corporate governance, statutory compliance, and employment law matters
  • Proven ability to draft and review various legal documents including contracts and legal notices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (local language proficiency preferred)
  • Experience in managing litigation and coordinating with external stakeholders

These are additional nice to have:

  • Experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry
  • Prior experience in a multinational corporate environment
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks affecting financial services in India
  • Experience in handling employee litigation and labor law matters
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong cross-cultural communication skills

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week
