Regular Employment

Location: Zurich, Zurich, CH

Are you a credit risk professional looking to take your career to the next level in one of the most dynamic and specialized areas of the reinsurance industry? At Swiss Re, we combine deep expertise with a global perspective — and we're looking for a curious, analytically driven individual who is ready to own underwriting decisions and help us grow our Credit & Surety Reinsurance portfolio across Europe. If you thrive on complex risk assessment, taking accountability for your decisions, building meaningful client relationships, and shaping business strategy, this could be the role for you.

About the Role

This is a rare opportunity to join Swiss Re's Credit & Surety Reinsurance Europe team in Zurich — a team at the heart of one of the most specialized and intellectually stimulating corners of the reinsurance world. You will play an active role in assessing and underwriting treaty and facultative reinsurance opportunities, taking full ownership of your underwriting decisions, engaging directly with leading insurers across Europe, and contributing to portfolio strategy and business growth. Whether your background is in Credit & Surety (re)insurance, credit risk management, trade finance, corporate banking, or a related financial discipline, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and underwrite treaty and facultative reinsurance opportunities, evaluating risk profile, exposure, profitability and portfolio impact through robust analysis and sound underwriting judgement

  • Own and be accountable for underwriting recommendations and decisions, exercising independent judgement, standing behind your assessments, and ensuring decisions are in line with Swiss Re's risk appetite, governance framework and strategic objectives

  • Negotiate reinsurance terms and conditions with clients and brokers, ensuring commercially sound and mutually beneficial outcomes

  • Build and develop strong client relationships with insurance companies, brokers and other market participants across Europe, actively contributing to the identification of new business opportunities

  • Monitor market developments, emerging risks and portfolio performance to inform underwriting decisions and support sustainable business growth

  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders including Client Markets, Credit Risk Management, Claims, Contracts, Business Services and Finance, ensuring seamless end-to-end execution

About the Team

Credit & Surety Reinsurance at Swiss Re provides tailored reinsurance solutions to insurers writing Trade Credit, Surety and Political Risk business across the globe. Our Europe team is a close-knit, highly international group that works with some of the most prominent insurers in the region, spanning diverse markets, products and client segments.

As part of this team, you will benefit from a collaborative culture that values knowledge-sharing, intellectual curiosity and professional development. You will work alongside colleagues across Europe, the Americas and Asia, gaining exposure to a truly global network while being based in Zurich — one of the world's leading financial centres. This is an environment where your ideas are heard, your expertise is valued, and your career can grow.

About You

You are an intellectually curious and commercially minded professional who brings strong analytical skills, sound risk judgement and a genuine passion for building relationships. Critically, you are someone who takes full ownership of your underwriting decisions — you are confident in your assessments, comfortable defending your positions, and understand that accountability is at the core of great underwriting. You are at ease navigating complexity, working across cultures and communicating with confidence — whether you are presenting an underwriting recommendation internally or negotiating terms with a client. You collaborate openly with colleagues and are motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a high-performing, international team.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • Academic background in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Law or a related discipline

  • Several years of professional experience in Credit & Surety (re)insurance underwriting, credit risk management, trade finance, guarantees, corporate banking, structured finance, export finance or a related underwriting or risk assessment role

  • Strong understanding of credit risk, financial analysis and underwriting principles, with demonstrated ability to apply risk-based decision-making in complex situations and take full accountability for the outcomes

  • Ability to assess complex risks from both an individual transaction and portfolio perspective, balancing analytical rigour with commercial pragmatism — and the confidence to own and defend those assessments

  • Strong relationship management and negotiation skills combined with sound commercial judgement and a client-centric mindset

  • Fluency in English and Italian, with strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Willingness to travel to meet clients and attend industry events

These are additional nice to haves:

  • Additional European language skills such as German, French or Spanish, which would be a valuable asset in our pan-European client environment

  • Familiarity with European insurance and financial services markets, including regulatory frameworks and market dynamics

For Switzerland, the base salary range for this position is between CHF 132 000 and CHF 198 000 for a full-time role.

The specific salary offered considers:

  • The requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role

  • The applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience

In the situation where you do not meet all the requirements or you significantly exceed these, the offered salary may be below or above the advertised range. In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for additional rewards and benefits including an attractive performance-based annual bonus.

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
