About the Role
As Engineering Manager, you'll have the exciting opportunity to build and retain a strong Engineering team focused on delivering strategic initiatives for our L&H Re Offer & Contract service. You'll operate at the intersection of technology and business, driving innovation and excellence in everything we do.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop engineering teams responsible for both internal and external team members across specific products
Prioritize initiatives based on expected business benefits and drive effective execution to ensure investments produce tangible outcomes
Collaborate closely with L&H Engineering Lead, Product Owners, Technology Platform leads, and Operations team members
Recommend and build alternative solutions to business challenges, contributing to streamlined processes and competitive advantage
Directly contribute to our platforms while fostering a culture of technical excellence
Guide teams through complex problem-solving and drive successful delivery of high-quality products
Implement and advocate for best practices in software development, including platform engineering, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and agile methodologies
Conduct code and SDLC reviews to drive continuous improvement in both technical processes and team dynamics
Coach and mentor junior team members to foster growth and development
About the Team
Our team is the global L&H Reinsurance Engineering team, responsible for the technical Architecture and Engineering for L&H Reinsurance business unit. The team members are passionate about technology with deep understanding of reinsurance business. We closely collaborate with other teams and colleagues around the globe to share knowledge and engineer solutions.
Growing experience will, over time, give you a broad view on Architecture & Engineering of a global reinsurer and enable you to have a comprehensive understanding, people and systems involved and how these systems shape business outcomes. This will allow you to build a strong engineering team in Hyderabad and become a key technology leader in Swiss Re.
About You
We're looking for a technically strong leader who can balance hands-on contributions with strategic thinking. You thrive in collaborative environments and have a passion for developing both systems and people. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and your commitment to continuous improvement will be key to success in this role.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
15+ years of experience in software engineering with strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms & architecture patterns
10+ years of experience in Java core and related technologies in a large enterprise system
Proven track record in engineering management, building, leading, and motivating engineering teams and projects
Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and scalable system design for building highly secure, reliable, and resilient systems
Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
These are additional nice to haves:
Experience with agile methodologies and delivering high-quality software products
Hands-on coding skills and willingness to contribute to the codebase when necessary
Passion for mentoring and developing engineering talent
Strategic mindset and excellent problem-solving abilities
Proficiency in English
Interview Process:
Our interview process is designed to evaluate both your technical skills and your leadership qualities. It includes several stages:
Coding interview: Bring your own code with language of your choice and send it to us 1 day in advance. In case you do not have a code to send us, we would send you a coding exercise to tackle out as an alternative. The interview focuses on your coding skills, expect also a small simple live coding exercise.
Product engineering interview: A discussion focused on understanding if you put product above technologies and you're able to balance analysis and pragmatism
System design interview: We design a system together, focusing on technical concepts, we're looking at your ability to clarify requirements and craft a functional system given the context.
Leadership Interview: Focused on your leadership and people management skills, we look at your previous experiences in similar situations.
Meet with the team: with the engineers in the hiring team, about technical topics, experiences, and cultural fit.
