About the Role

Life & Health Actuarial Reserving L3 Operations is responsible for ensuring the reliability, quality, and operational excellence of Swiss Re’s Life & Health application landscape. As a Lead Operations & QA Engineer, you will play a critical role at the intersection of production operations, quality assurance, and business-facing delivery.

Reporting to the L&H Actuarial Reserving Head, this role combines hands-on QA ownership, L3 production support, and operational governance. You will work closely with business stakeholders, developers, architects, and global IT teams to ensure applications are stable, secure, scalable, and delivered with high quality.

This is a hybrid engineering role focused on end-to-end ownership, from requirements and test design through production support and continuous operational improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Production Operations & Application Support

  • Manage day-to-day L3 production support and operational oversight for Life & Health applications.
  • Provide Level 3 (L3) production support, including incident and problem triage, root cause analysis, workaround definition, and long-term solution design.
  • Ensure high systems availability, stability, and performance, including proactive monitoring and issue prevention.
  • Manage application access, authorization, and audit controls, ensuring adherence to security and compliance standards.
  • Support release, deployment, smoke testing, and production induction activities.

Quality Assurance & Testing

  • Define test strategies, test scenarios, acceptance criteria, and detailed test cases for functional, regression, integration, and data testing.
  • Perform hands-on testing of applications, integrations, and data pipelines.
  • Investigate defects, production issues, and data inconsistencies, working closely with development teams to resolve them.
  • Coordinate and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and obtain business sign-off.
  • Contribute to and help enforce automated testing practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ensure quality standards are met across the full SDLC, from design through production support.

Operational Excellence & Governance

  • Act as an operational and quality consultant to development teams, influencing design decisions for maintainability, scalability, and supportability.
  • Maintain application documentation, including runbooks, operational procedures, and service-level documentation.
  • Drive process improvements, automation, and operational efficiency initiatives.
  • Support vendor coordination and offshore/onshore team collaboration.
  • Ensure adherence to IT standards, security requirements, and governance processes.

  • Required Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • Master’s degree is a plus

Experience

  • 5–10+ years of experience in IT, with exposure to application operations, QA, or delivery roles
  • Experience in production support (L2/L3) and/or software quality assurance
  • Hands-on experience with testing, defect management, and release support
  • Experience working in complex, integrated enterprise environments
  • Exposure to insurance or reinsurance domain is highly desirable

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of SDLC and Agile / Scrum methodologies
  • Experience with Java/J2EE-based systems and distributed applications
  • Working knowledge of SQL, data validation, and large datasets
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Azure DevOps, and test management tools
  • Experience with automation tools (e.g., Selenium, PyTest, Postman) is a plus
  • Knowledge of application security concepts, access control, and audit requirements
  • Understanding of release, deployment, and CI/CD practices
