Lead Specialty Architect - Property & Casualty IT

Regular Employment

Location: Bratislava, SK

About the role

At Swiss Re, our mission is to make the world more resilient by helping society understand, manage, and transfer risk. In the Specialty reinsurance business, this mission takes a very concrete form: Swiss Re supports the coverage of complex, high-severity risks such as aviation, marine, energy, cyber, and political risk – exposures that are essential to global trade, infrastructure, and economic stability, yet difficult or impossible to carry without reinsurance.

As Lead Specialty Architect, you play a key role in enabling this business through technology. By shaping, evolving, and safeguarding the application landscape that supports Specialty underwriting and client engagement, you help ensure that these risks can be assessed, managed, and transferred reliably and at scale. In doing so, your work contributes directly to the stability and effectiveness of Swiss Re’s Specialty business and, ultimately, to the resilience of the systems and industries it supports.

Key responsibilities

As Lead Specialty Architect, you are the architectural owner of the Specialty application landscape within P&C Re, with end-to-end accountability across all the architectural disciplines:

  • Own the application and technical architecture for all Specialty business applications, covering their full lifecycle from design to operations.
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and evolution of both internal underwriting applications and externally facing solutions used by Swiss Re’s Specialty reinsurance clients.
  • Shape the Specialty business application landscape in close collaboration with Business Architecture, ensuring clear domain alignment and long-term sustainability.
  • Design and evolve the Specialty data architecture together with P&C Re Data Architecture, including data models, integration patterns, and analytical foundations.
  • Define and govern cloud-native architectures on Microsoft Azure, ensuring scalability, security, cost efficiency, and operational robustness.
  • Ensure operational stability and resilience of the application portfolio by working closely with the central Level-2 support team and the Reliability & Resilience Architecture function.
  • Actively contribute to the P&C Re Architecture chapter, helping define standards, reference architectures, and application blueprints.
  • Own and lead one or two cross-cutting architectural topics relevant across all P&C Re IT product areas.
  • Foster strong, trust-based collaboration between application development teams and the Architecture function.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with a balanced profile of deep technical expertise and strong leadership capabilities.

Professional & Technical Skills

A successful candidate will bring most of the following:

  • Extensive experience in application development and operating an application landscape at scale.
  • Strong, hands-on background in designing and building applications using .NET.
  • Deep experience with cloud-native infrastructure architectures for Azure-based applications.
  • Solid hands-on experience in data modeling and data structure design, with exposure to formal Data Architecture practices.
  • Experience with Angular is a strong plus.
  • Practical experience with Databricks and/or Palantir Foundry is highly beneficial.
  • A university degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a comparable engineering discipline.
  • Experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry is strongly desirable.
  • A solid understanding of Specialty reinsurance (or the willingness and ability to acquire it quickly) is a clear differentiator.

Personal & Leadership Skills

Equally important are your personal strengths:

  • Strong thought leadership and influencing skills; ability to challenge the status quo and advocate for meaningful change.
  • Architectural mindset, with a structured approach to problem-solving and strong planning and design capabilities.
  • Proven ability to break down complex problems into manageable components and design coherent solutions.
  • Exceptional ability to explain architectural decisions clearly and logically to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • High personal integrity, accountability, and a proactive approach to ownership and decision-making.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, able to build trusted relationships across teams, functions, and geographies.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
