About the Team

P&C Contracts is part of Underwriting Excellence in Property & Casualty Reinsurance and is responsible for ensuring Swiss Re's (re)insurance agreements comply with underwriting and contract standards.

You will join a highly engaged global team of approximately 40 legal, claims, underwriting, and contract specialists supporting Property, Casualty, and Specialty business lines worldwide. The team is responsible for:

  • Drafting and reviewing (re)insurance wordings.
  • Advising on contract-related matters.
  • Negotiating and finalising reinsurance contract terms with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supporting the development of contract management tools, wording analytics, and contract governance standards.
  • Collaborating across regions, including APAC, EMEA, and the Americas, on global initiatives and projects.

 

About the Role

As Reinsurance Contracts Expert / Counsel, you will support Swiss Re's Property & Casualty Reinsurance business across Asia Pacific, partnering closely with underwriting, client management, and other stakeholders to manage contract risks and ensure contract certainty.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Independently drafting, reviewing, and negotiating reinsurance contracts, binders, slips, endorsements, and related documentation.
  • Ensuring contract wordings align with business intent, corporate standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable laws.
  • Conducting portfolio analysis and providing insights on contract-related risks and trends.
  • Supporting the Head of P&C Reinsurance Contracts in managing contract risks across the reinsurance portfolio.
  • Collaborating with Client Managers, Underwriters, brokers, and external clients during contract negotiations.
  • Acting as a technical advisor on contract interpretation, wording implications, and market best practices.
  • Contributing to the development of corporate policies related to contracts.
  • Supporting the enhancement of contract management and analytical systems.
  • Developing and delivering training on contract-related topics and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Maintaining strong governance, risk, and control standards for contract wordings and processes.
  • Participating in global projects and working closely with colleagues across APAC, EMEA, and the US.
  • Travelling for business approximately two weeks per year.

About You

We're looking for an experienced reinsurance professional with strong technical, analytical, and stakeholder management capabilities who can work independently while building collaborative relationships across a global organisation.

You bring:

Qualifications & Experience

  • A degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, Law, or a related field.
  • Professional insurance qualifications (e.g., ACII or equivalent) preferred.
  • Legal qualification or background in Common Law / English Law is advantageous.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the (re)insurance industry in areas such as:
    • Claims
    • Underwriting
    • Coverage Counsel
    • Legal
    • Product Development

Technical Expertise

  • Strong understanding of P&C (re)insurance products, coverage, policy wordings, and business processes.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating commercial and reinsurance agreements.
  • Knowledge of relevant legal, regulatory, and market practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess contract risks and trends.
  • Good computer and information technology literacy.
