About the Role:

We are looking for a pro-active, highly motivated and result oriented Commercial Surety professional to support the growth of our Commercial Surety business across Canada. As a member of the Surety team and reporting to the Leader Commercial Surety Canada, you will be responsible for planning market approach, distribution with broker partners, approving commercial surety bonds, budgeting, and strategic planning and through the use of financial and qualitative analysis, achieving minimum loss ratio and maximum profitability for the region.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Underwriting

• Ensure profitable underwriting decisions through appropriate financial analysis to determine the feasibility of providing surety credit. • Perform analysis on annual and internal financial statements and review other relevant credit information for new and existing accounts. 
• Analyze new account submissions for all commercial appointed brokers in Canada.
• Maintain current underwriting files in accordance with the Swiss Re Surety Group Procedure Manual for Commercial Surety.
• You will also oversee underwriting production and collection of account receivables if necessary, with Technical Accounting.

Business Origination 
• Working closely with sales, claims and other lines of business, you will drive our market presence, messaging to the market, origination, and new launches, representing Surety Canada at regional insurance industry, and broker events.
• Enhance existing Broker relationships, identify, and secure new Broker relationships 
• Establish revenue goals and monitor losses for assigned region.
• Maintain a strong working relationship with claims colleagues and review all losses with Claims.
• Provide quarterly marketing updates and attend NA Surety Group regional meetings as required 

Compliance and Controlling: 
• Ensure compliance with all of Swiss Re business guidelines, you will demonstrate the Swiss Re values and Corporate Solutions. Key Behaviors whilst ensuring that relevant (Client, Group, Divisional, etc.) deadlines are met.


About the Team:

In this role you will play an important and critical part in the Canada Surety team, reporting directly to the Leader Commercial Surety Canada and a part of the wider NA Surety team. The position is based in Toronto, but as part of a North American and global team offering multinational solutions, you will also liaise on a regular basis with colleagues across the world.


About You:

• University degree with emphasis in business, preferably finance or accounting, or 5+ years of relevant experience in commercial surety underwriting
• Proven capabilities in business origination, marketing and business development
• Broad network of broker and client contacts
• Strong competency in quantitative and financial analysis
• Strong technical underwriting background and customer focus mindset • High level of self-motivation and ability to work independently
• Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills
• Self-starter, ability and willingness to take the initiative in a team-oriented environment
• Strong marketing skills and ability to obtain new business and work with commercial clients
• Strong competency in quantitative and financial analysis
• Ability to travel up to 25% 

The base salary hiring range for this existing position located in Toronto is CAD $150,000 to $180,000. The specific base salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.
