About The Role:
Are you experienced with underwriting and managing an assigned book of business? We are looking for an experienced surety underwriter who will manage agency relationships, market for new business, and assist the Regional Manager with strategic planning. The objective of this role is to achieve minimum loss ratio and maximum profitability for the Credit & Surety Division.
Essential Responsibilities –
- Assess credit risk to ensure profitable underwriting, analyze annual and internal financial statements, and review other relevant credit information for new and existing accounts.
- Drive new business flow with assigned agents.
- Maintain current underwriting files in accordance with the Swiss Re Surety Group Procedure Manual for Commercial Surety.
- Enhance existing agency relationships and identify new agency relationships.
- Establish a consistent visibility plan which would include agency visits, account meetings, and industry events.
- Contribute to the business unit's annual financial goals.
- Maintain a strong working relationship with Claims, Legal, Operations, and Accounting departments.
- Assist the Regional Manager in developing one-to-three-year regional strategic plan.
About You:
- Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in business, preferably finance or accounting, or, the following years of relevant experience in commercial surety underwriting
- 7-10 years to be considered for Senior Underwriter level (VP Level)
- 3-6 years to be considered for Underwriter level (AVP Level)
- Strong marketing and interpersonal skills
- Strong competency in quantitative and financial analysis
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Competent computer skills including knowledge of Excel and Word
- Ability to travel up to 35%
Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office three days per week.
The estimated base salary range for the Senior Underwriter level is $156,000 to $234,000. The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
