About the Role
As a Data Engineer in our Product Area "Research & Sustainability," you'll be at the forefront of supporting impactful sustainability initiatives through data-driven solutions. This role offers an excellent opportunity to apply your technical skills to meaningful projects while collaborating with experienced professionals across our global organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Support and develop data pipelines and products in collaboration with our Lead Engineer
Write and maintain high-quality, efficient code that meets our technical standards
Analyze complex datasets to identify patterns and help create valuable insights
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure product success
Contribute to innovation in our sustainability-focused technical solutions

Our team drives data-driven insights and technological innovation within Group Underwriting. We create tech solutions tailored for sustainability, working in a global environment with colleagues based in Zurich, Bratislava, Bangalore, and beyond. About You
You're a curious and motivated professional with a solid foundation in data engineering concepts and a genuine interest in sustainability. You thrive in collaborative environments, approach problems analytically, and are eager to develop your technical skills while contributing to meaningful work.
Required Skills and Experience:
Strong PySpark proficiency with demonstrated ability to develop efficient data processing solutions and optimize distributed computing workflows
Strong understanding of Data Engineering principles including CI/CD practices and experience in either Data Modelling, ETL processes, big data technologies or data warehousing
Additional Python/Scala programming skills with proven problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking
These are additional nice to haves:
Experience implementing advanced PySpark features such as custom transformations, window functions, and UDFs
Knowledge of Palantir Foundry and Azure cloud platforms
Experience working in agile project environments and with tools like Azure DevOps
Skills in generating and interpreting complex data sets
Familiarity with QA and testing frameworks
Understanding of Typescript

For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between [EUR 2,400] and [EUR 4,100] per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:
- the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
- the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.
In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.
