About the Role

Our teams are at the forefront of delivering innovative solutions to support underwriters in the reinsurance industry and our corporate clients. We develop robust applications and analytical products that address a broad spectrum of topics, including contract wording, pricing, and costing services.

We are seeking results-driven and technically proficient Engineering Managers to lead cross-functional teams comprising backend, frontend, quality assurance, and infrastructure engineers. These teams are responsible for building scalable, cloud-native systems leveraging Java and TypeScript, with a strong emphasis on performance, reliability, and maintainability.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience

· 5+ years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, with at least 2 years in a people leadership role

· 3+ years of experience designing, building and troubleshooting reliable, resilient and secure systems

· A passion for mentoring and developing engineering talent

· Ability to attract talent by setting the standard for excellence

· Excellent problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset

· Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

· Knowledge of cloud-based architectures

· Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure

· Experience in managing hybrid or remote engineering teams

· Knowledge of event-driven architecture (Kafka, Pub/Sub) and reactive systems

Responsibilities:

· Team Leadership & Culture

· Lead, coach and grow a high-performing engineering team

· Foster a culture of ownership, continuous improvement and innovation

· Facilitate open communication and regular feedback loops within the team

Technical Strategy & Execution

· Guide the team in designing and building cloud-native applications using Java and TypeScript

· Ensure adherence to best practices in microservices architecture, CI/CD, observability, and test automation

· Support architecture reviews, code quality, and design patterns aligned with modern cloud systems

· Stay abreast of industry trends in cloud platforms, frameworks, and AI-supported development tools

Project Delivery & Agile Practices

· Own the end-to-end software delivery lifecycle: planning, development, testing, release and operation

· Collaborate with product managers, architects, and UX designers to refine requirements and priorities

· Apply agile methodologies to deliver incremental value and adaptive planning

Recruiting, Development & Performance

· Hire and onboard top engineering talent

· Set goals, and support growth plans for individual team members

· Perform performance reviews and provide mentorship to foster career development

Interview Process:

Our interview process is designed to evaluate both your technical skills and your leadership qualities. It includes several stages:

1. Leadership interview

2. Coding interview

3. System design interview

For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between [EUR 3,800] and [EUR 6,300] per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:​

  • the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role, ​
  • the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.​
