About the Role

As Operations Manager - Alternative Risk Transfer, you'll serve as the critical link between Business Services and our Corporate Solutions Alternative Risk Transfer Structurers, ensuring exceptional service delivery while coaching a team to excellence. This position offers the perfect balance of technical expertise, leadership, and strategic influence in a collaborative global environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead service delivery by managing workload for assigned underwriting and structuring teams, providing triage across Business Services as needed, and ensuring all service level agreements are consistently met
  • Drive team performance through effective coaching, training, performance management, and compensation recommendations
  • Serve as primary resource for Underwriting Assistant/Analyst questions, assessing training needs and participating in development of training materials
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures, system enhancements, and process improvements
  • Manage projects and participate in initiatives to optimize underwriting support functions
  • Coordinate with underwriting, structurers, near-shore/off-shore teams, and other functional areas including Products, Finance, Claims, and Policy Processing
  • Act as Business Expert for Swiss Re systems, participating in testing and training colleagues on new developments
  • Support talent management by determining staffing requirements, interviewing, hiring and training new team members
  • Travel occasionally (approximately 20%) to attend meetings, seminars, and programs

Our Business Services team is the operational backbone of our underwriting function, ensuring seamless service delivery to internal stakeholders. The team manages critical workflows, maintains quality standards, and continuously improves processes to support our underwriting excellence. Working collaboratively across regions and functions, the team plays an essential role in maintaining our competitive edge through operational efficiency and exceptional service.

About You

You're a natural leader with strong insurance knowledge and a passion for operational excellence. Your ability to build relationships, drive process improvements, and develop talent sets you apart. You thrive in a collaborative environment where you can apply both your technical expertise and people skills to achieve outstanding results.

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with strong business component preferred
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in commercial insurance with knowledge of commercial insurance principles and practices
  • Well-developed analytical skills and financial acumen
  • Solid proficiency in Microsoft software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Fluent English communication skills (written and verbal)

Nice-to-have:

  • Project management experience
  • Experience working in globally located team situations
  • Additional language skills beyond English
  • Demonstrated success working in a matrix environment
  • Experience with process improvement initiatives

This position is flexible to our Windsor, CT office or Kansas City, MO office, with potential to consider other locations for qualified individuals. We operate on a hybrid work model where you'll be in the office three days per week on average.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $108,000 to $178,000.  The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.
