Martin Weymann is Head Group Sustainability at Swiss Re, where he leads the development and execution of the Group’s sustainability strategy and drives the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations across the business, supporting Swiss Re’s vision to make the world more resilient.
He brings over 20 years of experience in the re/insurance industry, complemented by earlier work in consulting, engineering, international cooperation and humanitarian aid. From 2002 to 2011, he held roles at Swiss Re across risk management, underwriting, asset management and sustainability, building a broad foundation across the company’s core business. He was subsequently seconded to the Institute of International Finance (IIF) in Washington DC (2011–2014), where he helped advance the global insurance industry’s agenda on regulation, risk management and long-term investment.
He later served as Senior Risk Officer for Latin America, based in São Paulo from 2014 to 2017, before becoming Head of Sustainability, Emerging and Political Risk Management in Zurich, where he and his team developed capabilities in strategy, foresight, reporting and transactional due diligence.
Martin holds a Master of Science in Environmental Sciences from ETH Zurich, with a specialisation in climate and water physics, with further education in scenario analysis from Oxford and risk communication from Harvard.
